The sheer number of insects in the jungle is amazing and the massive quantities of mosquitos a bit annoying. Not only does the Amazon have the familiar large mosquitos we know in North America it also has a breed of smaller blood-sucking nat like insects that bite brutally. The bites are quick to swell up and itch for years afterwards (okay, slight exaggeration). Mosquito repellent? Its like adding chocolate sauce to their dessert.
